TIMEFRAME
February 2021 - March 2021
On March 20th, HOKUNEIA and UVSA hosted AFTERSET, a livestream charity music festival benefitting Messengers of Love, a philantrophy a philanthropy which aims to strives to achieve lasting improvements in the quality of life of less-fortunate children in Vietnam.  AFTERSET featured 5 musical acts and was streamed live on Twitch.  Together with the community, HOKUNEIA and UVSA raised $406.00 in donations in one night towards our benficiary.
In collaboration with UVSA, HOKUNEIA served as late-night entertainment for UVSA Summit 2021, a student-operated, virtual leadership conference that connects youth across the United States, providing tools for them to grow as leaders and young professionals.
The theme of UVSA Summit 2021 was “A New Chapter in Bloom” and all of the marketing for Summit thus far featured Spring and floral elements.  Thus, it was clear to me that my design for AFTERSET should include floral elements, as well.  While brainstorming with the Summit Staff Entertainment Committee, we also determined that a modern, nightlife, “club”-like appearance would give the event an impression that it will be fun, exciting, and high-energy.
For inspiration, the pieces that most influenced my design of the AFTERSET graphics was a set of posters designed by chriscarborough inspired by 88 RISING musical artists.  I was very interested in the designers use of text as a visual element in graphic design and it definitely inspired me to do the same in my design for AFTERSET.

The main images shown in the finished graphic of AFTERSET features two different types of flowers to adhere with the “in bloom/floral” themes of UVSA Summit’s overall theme.  Since UVSA is a Vietnamese youth-focused organization, I incorporated a nod to Vietnamese culture into my graphic, also to pay homage to my upbringing as a Vietnamese-American. The flowers that I selected to feature in the graphic has significant connection to Vietnamese culture.  The lotus represented in the upper-left image is considered to by the Vietnamese National Flower.  The flower featured in the bottom-right image is the peach blossom, which represents good fortune in Vietnamese culture.
Both images are colored and textured with a scanline that is warped slightly to have a “vaporwave” aesthetic.  The graphic also featured the same stying of utilizing text as a visual element in the design, placed on top of images.  The title design is comprised of a bright yellow-colored text, representing a lit neon sign of which you may see at a club or a bar.
